Welcome to Luvbee, based in Bedwas, South Wales
Our honey and beeswax is produced on a small scale from colonies of honey bees situated in apiaries dotted around the South Wales Valleys.
Luvbee is an expanding family business set up by Rhodri Powell in winter 2010.
An engineering geologist by trade I decided to take up beekeeping as a relaxing hobby, to escape the gripes of everyday work. In 2008 I approached my local beekeeping association for advice on how to obtain bees and where to begin! My first colony arrived in the Spring of 2009 and since then I have never looked back.
I now manage 10 hives, expanding year by year meeting some interesting people along with way. I have taken an active role in the beekeeping community working closely with the Welsh Beekeepers Association.
I continue to get hold of any books I can to learn about these fascinating creatures, and look forward to what the future holds for Luvbee and the field of beekeeping.

The Bees
The bees owned by Luvbee are the native Apis Mellifera (or Western European Honeybee). This species of honeybee is well adapted to the variable climates in South Wales.
Honey bees are a colonial insect that live collectively in a hive. From they're hives honeybees forage for pollen and nectar and convert it to honey which is stored in surplus. Honeybees produce far more honey than they require to survive, and through careful management beekeepers are able to harvest this excess honey.
By moving our bees to different crops thoughout the year we are able to offer a variety of honey including:
- Oilseed rape
- Spring Blossom
- Summer Blossom
- Heather
- And rich autumn blossom from Himalayan Balsam
